Stream on Demand: ‘The Big Short’ is big on laughs

What’s new for home viewing on video-on-demand and Netflix, Amazon Prime and other streaming services.

Pay-per-view / video on demand

I Saw the Light stars Tom Hiddleston as country-western legend Hank Williams in the story of his rise to fame and spiral of self-destruction. R. Also on DVD and Blu-ray and at Redbox.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Pitt are a married couple in crisis in By the Sea,” a contemplative drama written and directed by Jolie Pitt. R. Also on DVD and Blu-ray.

Also new: the Oscar-nominated animated fantasy Boy and the World from Brazil (PG), and the Mexican crime cartel drama 600 Miles with Tim Roth (R, in English and Spanish with subtitles).

Available same day as select theaters nationwide is Alex Gibney’s documentary Zero Days,” about the Stuxnet virus and the new world of cyberwarfare. PG-13.

The Big Short (2015) is the funniest film you’ll ever see tackle the economic crash of the last decade. Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling star. R.

The first two seasons of the Showtime gothic horror series Penny Dreadful (2014-15) reimagine the characters of iconic 19th-century British horror novels in the same shadowy Victorian London of dark magic. Not rated, features explicit material.

HBO Now

Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter star in Suffragette (2015), about the often violent struggle for women’s voting rights in Britain in the early 20th century. PG-13.
