2. The Best of EWU Film 7:30 p.m. Friday, Bing Crosby Theater, 901 W. Sprague Ave. Screening that showcases the best short films from the students of the EWU film program. The 70-minute screening will include films of all genres and will be followed by a question and answer session with the filmmakers. A reception will be held directly after the screening at the Tamarack Public House. All proceeds from this screening will go to the David K. Terwische Memorial Scholarship Fund, which reimburses EWU film students for submission fees to film festivals and screenplay competitions. (509) 359-6390. 3. A Queer Poetry Showcase 8 p.m. Friday, Westminster Congregational Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St. Spokane Poetry Slam helps kick off Pride weekend with performance poets from Seattle and Spokane, including Ebo Barton, Tobi Hill Meyer, Elissa Ball and Tara Hardy. All ages. 4. Pride Parade & Rainbow Festival Noon-10 p.m. Saturday, Riverfront Park, 507 N. Howard St. Pride 25: From Silence to Celebration marks the 25th year of Pride in Spokane. The parade starts downtown at noon with the Rainbow Festival immediately following in the Riverfront Park Gondola Meadow. The festival will include entertainment, resource and business fair, family area, teen zone by Odyssey Youth Movement and the nYne Pride Bar featuring beer, wine and spirits. On display will be an art show curated by JJ Rocco called “Pride’s Palette,” featuring 40 artists, with 30 percent of proceeds being donated to OutSpokane. All-ages dance party hosted by DJ Jewels. 5. Author Asia McClain 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main Ave. Asia McClain gained a bit of fame in 2014 thanks to the smash hit podcast “Serial,” when it was revealed that McClain could alibi Adnan Syed for the 1999 murder of his former girlfriend. Syed, who is still in prison for the crime, has aruged for a new trial based in large part on McClain’s testimony. McClain (now known as Asia McClain Chapman) has written a book about the experience, “Confessions of a Serial Alibi” (Post Hill Press, $17.58) and she’ll be on hand to sign copies. (509) 838-0206. 6. Street Music Week 2016 Noon-1 p.m. Monday-Friday, downtown Spokane, the Garland District, and downtown Coeur d’Alene. The 14th annual event where Spokesman-Review columnist Doug Clark recruits local volunteer musicians to play a variety of sounds daily at street corners in downtown Spokane, the Garland District and downtown Coeur d’Alene. Monetary donations for the Second Harvest Food Bank will be collected at each location. First-time volunteer musicians should email Clark at dougc@spokesman.com.
