Liberty Lake Police Blotter: Vehicle prowls ongoing issue in Liberty Lake

Vehicle prowls continue to be on the rise in Liberty Lake, with several new cases recently reported to police.

The first call came in just after 10 a.m. June 16. A resident in the 1200 block of North Homestead Road reported a purse missing from her vehicle. She said she saw a man wearing blue jeans and a white shirt with blond hair walking through backyards, according to Police Chief Brian Asmus.

Two more calls came in on June 17. A woman in the 22000 block of East Country Vista Drive reported that someone broke into her car and stole about $80 worth of items. A woman in the 23000 block of East Remington Lane reported that someone had broken into both of her cars and stolen items worth nearly $300. Keys to her home and the vehicle were among the items stolen.

A gun was among the items reported stolen from a vehicle in the 800 block of North Knudson Street on June 18. In total, more than $800 worth of items were reported as stolen.

Another report was made in the 1300 block of North Liberty Lake Road the afternoon of June 19. A woman reported that her car had been broken into and her purse taken. The purse was later found in the garbage at a local restaurant, but some of her credit cards had already been used, Asmus said.

All the vehicle prowls are currently under investigation.

Other calls from June 13-20

June 13: A resident in the 21000 block of East Country Vista Drive reported that her child had been shot in the back with a BB gun by other juveniles. Police have requested criminal charges against the juvenile who allegedly fired the gun.

Residents in the 23000 block of East Riverside Avenue reported that there were solicitors there behaving aggressively. Officers contacted the solicitors and told them they would be arrested if they did not get a license.

June 15: Police requested that criminal charges be filed against a woman who allegedly sent an email to someone who had obtained a no-contact order against her.

June 17: A man was cited for third-degree theft in the 1200 block of North Liberty Lake Road after he was caught shoplifting items valued at more than $60. The woman who drove to the location to pick him up was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

Arrests: Police made eight arrests for driving with a suspended license, one on a warrant for trafficking in stolen property and one on a failure to appear warrant.

Citations: Officers handed out five citations for failure to show proof of liability insurance and two for no brake lights or turn signals. Additional citations were given for driving without a license with identification, failure to install required ignition interlock device, defective tail light/license light, failure to stop at a red light and speeding.
