Crash involving teens caused power outage near Hayden

From staff reports

A large area near Hayden, Idaho, was still experiencing a power outage Wednesday morning after an SUV toppled a power pole Tuesday night.

A Honda Pilot occupied by three teenage girls was traveling west on East Chilco Road when it veered and struck the power pole at about 8:40 p.m., according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

One girl was taken to Kootenai Health with minor injuries, and another was taken there as a precaution. The third girl was fine.

The Sheriff’s Office said it doesn’t appear the driver had been speeding or drinking.

The power outage extended from the Garwood area to Twin Lakes and affected several traffic lights on U.S. Highway 95, the Sheriff’s Office said. A crew from Kootenai Electric expected to fix the outage by mid-morning.
