Atlanta fire kills multiple victims, officials say

Associated Press

ATLANTA – An Atlanta fire spokesman says a fire has killed multiple victims at a boarding house.

Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesman Cortez Stafford told reporters fire crews were called to the house on the city’s northwest side about 5 a.m. Monday, but were unable to reach most of the building because of heavy fire.

Stafford told reporters at the scene that multiple victims were dead inside, but officials were planning to search the rest of the home before confirming how many people died.

Stafford said that when fire crews arrived, the fire was going through the roof and caught nearby trees ablaze.

He said firefighters were only able to get into about 40 percent of the building, partly because some of the house collapsed.
