Area roundup: Sun Devils pull away late for 10-1 baseball win over sloppy Cougars
Seth Martinez threw a complete-game five-hitter, Brian Serven had a two-RBI single to help break the game open and the visiting Arizona State Sun Devils beat Washington State 10-1 Thursday night to open their Pac-12 baseball series.
The Cougars (8-15, 1-6) committed five errors and allowed five unearned runs.
Trek Stemp and Mason Cerrillo had two hits apiece for WSU. Ryan Ward (1-1) allowed two runs on three hits and gave up three walks and three wild pitches through three innings to pick up the loss for the Cougars.
Martinez (4-2) struck out five batters and allowed only an unearned run in the ninth inning during a 102-pitch effort for ASU (15-9, 2-5).
Men’s basketball
Eastern Washington will host a four-team subregional round as part of its first appearance in the Legends Classic tournament next season.
Dates have not been finalized, but EWU will host Bryant, Louisiana-Monroe and Seattle in mid-November games in Cheney and will play road games at two of the remaining four teams (Notre Dame, Texas, Colorado, Northwestern).
