Joseph L. Lamping, age 103, passed away peace- fully in his sleep on December 29th, 2015
Joe was born July 1, 1912, on a small dairy ranch in Mt.

Vernon, WA.

He moved to Spokane, WA when he was 12 and lived most of his life there.
Joe loved and excelled in sports, winning the Spokane City Baseball Pitching contest while an 8th grader at Bemis School.

Joe attended Hillyard High School where he lettered in Track, Basketball, and Football.

He graduated from Rogers High School in 1932.
Joe joined the Washington Air National Guard in 1928.

He also became a Lt.

Colonel and Command Pilot in the Civil Air Patrol during WWII.

Then in 1933 he joined with Wallace Air Service as one of two Aerial Photographers in the US.

He also taught Aero-Dynamics at Washington State College for a couple of years.

He became part owner of Empire Erection Co. and an Ironworker until his retirement.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman.

He loved hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, boating, and just being in the woods.

He also loved to cook.

He could build or repair anything.

He built his family house and lived in it for over 60 years.
Joe was very active in his community.

He was a Director for The March of Dimes.

He was a past president, Life Member, and a Hall of Fame member of the Spokane Bowling Association.

He was a past president and Life Member of The Wandermere Men’s Club.

He was a past president and Director of The Hillyard High School Alumni.

He was a Life Member of Spokane Elks, no.

228 and the Eagles.

He was also a founding member of the Spokane Yacht Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Edla.

He is survived by his daughter Joan, son-in-law, Mike Sheridan; grandsons: Tim (Denise), Sean (Linette); granddaughter Kimberley Danel (Keith); great-grandsons: Cooper, Sam, Brody and Henry; great-granddaughters: Mollie, Rachel, Olivia, Margaret and Evelyn; a sister Clara; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his special friend Elsie Russell.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 5th at 9:45 a.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley.
