Inmate at Yakima jail found dead with upper body trauma

YAKIMA – Authorities say an inmate at the Yakima County jail was found dead with significant trauma to his upper body.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release deputies were called to the jail Wednesday morning for a death.

Investigators say they found 27-year-old Timothy Denton, of Yakima, deceased. Denton had been arrested by Yakima police and booked into the jail Tuesday evening for assault.

Investigators are collecting evidence and interviewing jail staff and other inmates to determine what led to Denton’s death.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
