Hired Syracuse athletic director Mark Coyle was hired for the same job at Minnesota, leaving the Orange with a hole to fill for a second straight year.
Announced Former Arizona Cardinals receiver Roy Green will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor at halftime against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Oct. 2. Green will be the 16th member of the Ring of Honor.
Iowa State announced that Emmanuel Malou will skip his remaining college eligibility and enter the NBA draft. Malou, a 6-foot-9 forward from Melbourne, Australia, was one of the nation’s top junior college prospects when he signed with Iowa State in November.
Carolina Panthers owner and founder Jerry Richardson, 79, will have a second operation on his shoulder to repair a rotator cuff injury.Team physician Pat Connor will perform the surgery on Thursday in Charlotte.
Suspended NASCAR has suspended Kyle Busch’s crew chief and tire changer for one race for violating the lug nut policy during the team’s win at Kansas last weekend. Adam Stevens was also fined $20,000 and placed on probation through the end of the year. Front tire changer Josh Leslie is on probation until Dec. 31.
Orlando City SC coach Adrian Heath has been suspended one game for entering the field during the match against the New York Red Bulls.Heath went onto the field in the 54th minute and touched the ball during the 1-1 tie on Friday. He’ll serve the suspension when Orlando travels to Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.
Withdrew Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has withdrawn from his scheduled fight against Uriah Hall of Jamaica on Saturday in the city of Curitiba in southern Brazil. Organizers of the event did not provide details for the 41-year-old’s decision, and said Hall will not face a different opponent.
Filed A Genesee County (Michigan) police officer has filed a lawsuit alleging he was pressured to find former Michigan State basketball star Mateen Cleaves guilty of sexual assault. Mundy Township Police Officer Brian Ogle filed suit last week against the police department and the township alleging he was retaliated against for reporting violations of Michigan law in the investigation to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, which handled the investigation. Genesee County prosecutors turned the case over to Wayne County because of a potential conflict of interest.
Ogle’s suit claims his rights under the state’s Whistleblowers’ Protection Act were violated. He participated in the investigation of allegations that Cleaves took a 24-year-old woman he met at a charity golf outing to a motel in Mundy Township, southwest of Flint, Sept. 15 and kept her against her will while sexually assaulting her.
Elected Jockey Wayne D. Wright, winner of nearly 1,500 races including each of the Triple Crown legs in separate years, and thoroughbred Tom Ochiltree, a star in the 1870s, have been elected to the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame. The election by the museum’s historic review committee puts the inductees in the previously announced class of 2016 that includes thoroughbreds Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta, jockey Ramon Dominguez and trainer Steve Asmussen.
