1. Music Heals at Wellpinit: Spring Celebration - 6 p.m. Friday, Antoine Andrews Memorial Hall, Spokane Tribe Pow Wow Grounds, Wellpinit. The Spokane Symphony and the Spokane Tribe of Indians invite the community to enjoy a special performance featuring a student play, “Goat Moccasins,” narrated in Salish, Salish singing by tribal students, and orchestra performances of works by Mozart, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Rossini and Tchaikovsky. 2. Alan Jones and his Sextet - 7:30 p.m. Friday, Spokane Falls Community College, Music/Performing Arts Building Auditorium, Building 15, 3410 W. Fort George Drive. The Portland native, an acclaimed drummer and composer, has worked with Esperanza Spalding, Leroy Vinnegar, David Friesen, Randy Brecker, Ingrid Jensen and Dave Holland, among many others. 3. 19th Annual Spring PowWow - Friday and Saturday; Grand Entry on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m., Spokane Falls Community College gymnasium, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive. 5. Garden Expo 2016: “Gardening Thru the Ages: Once Upon a Vine” - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St. More than 250 garden-related vendors, including plant sellers, decor, accessories, and more. 6. Spokane Junior Lilac Parade - 10 a.m. Saturday, downtown Spokane. 65th annual event is hosted by Spokane Rotaract. The parade doubles as a competition for more than 8,700 middle and junior high school and elementary bands and drill teams along with multiple children’s organizations within the Inland Northwest. Parade begins near the Spokane Arena, travels south on Washington to Riverside, west to Stevens, south to Spokane Falls Boulevard and west to Post street; see a map at http://www.spokanerotaract.org/junior-lilac-parade/. 7. Anna Tivel and Little Wolf - 8 p.m. Saturday, the Bartlett, 228 W. Sprague Ave. Tivel, a native Washingtonian who now calls Portland home, plays ahead of the release of her third album, “Heroes Waking Up,” which comes out May 20. (509) 747-2174. Admission: $7

8. DancersDrummersDreamers Commotion ‘N Motion - 7 p.m. Monday, Lake City High School, 6101 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene. This high octane show combines live dance with original music and comedy to create a modern vaudeville experience. This energetic and family friendly production is co-directed by professors Dan Bukvich and Diane Walker and brought to you by the University of Idaho Dance Theater and the Lionel Hampton School of Music Percussion and DDD ensembles. 9. “I am a Town” Poetry Project - 6 p.m. Tuesday, Spark Center, 1214 W. Summit Parkway. Hosted by Spokane poet laureate Laura Read. In this workshop, we will write poems about specific places in Spokane that are significant to us because of the memories we have attached to them. We will also workshop these poems and then publish them in a book so our individual memories of particular places together become our collective story of our town. The class will include example poems, generative exercises, feedback from a supportive community of writers, publication in a book and an opportunity to share your work at a reading on May 31.
