State 4A, 3A, 2A track and field championships at Mount Tahoma HS, Tacoma, Thursday-Saturday.

4A outlook

The South Kitsap boys and Issaquah girls are the defending champions. The Lewis and Clark girls were second and Ferris’ boys took fourth. LC and Central Valley’s girls will challenge for trophies while Mead’s boys will also be in the trophy chase.

Returning area state placers: Boys – Nick Johnson, Gonzaga Prep (110 hurdles, state champ); Ben Craig, Central Valley (110h, 3rd); Bryan Anderson, Mead (110h, 7th; 300h, 4th). Girls - Anna Rodgers, Lewis and Clark (100, state champ; 200, 3rd; long jump, 2nd); Anna Fomin, CV (400, 3rd); Briegan Bester, CV (800, 5th; 1,600, 5th); Kearan Nelson, CV (800, 8th); Zella Conley, Mead (100h, 8th); Sydney Johnson, CV (hj, 3rd).

3A outlook

The Kamiakin girls’ string of five straight state titles is likely in jeopardy. In the boys, Bellevue is defending champ. Mt. Spokane’s boys, third a year ago, will be in the hunt.

Returning area state placers: JJ Curry, Rogers (200, 8th; 400, 7th); Jacob Barnes, Mt. Spokane (javelin, 3rd).

2A outlook

The River Ridge boys and Sehome girls are defending state champs. West Valley’s boys were second and will contend for a title and East Valley was third. Pullman’s girls were third.

Girls – Angel Nkwonta, Pullman (shot put, state champ; 100, 2nd; 200, 4th); Brittany Aquino, East Valley (1,600, state champ; 3,200, 2nd); KD Skillingstad, Cheney (100h, state champ; 300h, state champ; triple jump, 4th); Rylie Pease, Cheney (javelin, 2nd).
