Prep tennis: GSL girls advance to State 4A semifinals in singles, doubles
Central Valley’s Kyra Harames advanced to the girls singles semifinals by winning twice during the first day of the State 4A tennis championships in Richland.
Harames defeated Lake Stevens’ Monica Pilchard 6-2, 6-3 to open the day. She topped Teagan Mach of Newport (Bellevue) 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals.
Harames will meet either Mountain View’s Amila Gogalija or Timberline’s Angela Schuster in Saturday’s semfinals.
Lewis and Clark’s Abby DeNike and Brooke Fager also moved into the semifinals in girls singles, dropping just two games on the day. They will play Crystal Lee and Ally Peterson of Thomas Jefferson in the semifinals.
LC’s Kyle Fager opened with win in boys singles, lost his second-round match and won his consolation.
State 3A
Shadle Park’s Brenden Archer won his opener in boys singles in Kennewick before dropping his next two matches.
State 2A
Clarkston’s Addie Folsom and Halle Berg will meet Pullman’s Alexa Yadama and Ana D’Acosta for fifth and eighth places in girls doubles Saturday at Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
Cheney’s boys doubles team of Ryan Axtell and Mason Van is in consolations. They won their opener before falling in the quarterfinals.
State 1A/2B/1B
Deer Park’s Niamh Lakewolf advanced to the boys singles semifinals at Yakima Tennis Center, rallying past Chelan’s Bryce Robison 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Colville’s Darby Fox will play for fourth and seventh places in girls singles. Rose Melville of Lind-Ritzville/Sprague will play for fifth and eighth.
Collin and Connor Cremers of St. George’s will play for fourth and seventh places in boys doubles.
