Wildfire burning in Grant County does not threaten Sasquatch Music Festival

From staff reports

A 600-acre wildfire burned Sunday afternoon across rugged terrain in Grant County. It did not threaten the Sasquatch Music Festival in the Gorge Amphitheatre.

The wildfire is called the Sunland fire. It led the Grant County Sheriff’s Office to evacuate the Old Vantage Highway and Frenchman Coulee area. It continued to burn in the evening in dry grass and sage and had forced the closure of Silica Road between Sunland Road and Interstate 90.

A news release said the fire is threatening about 10 homes and crops in the area. Firefighters are attempting to suppress it before it burns through the many nearby camping and recreational areas.

Concertgoers have not been told to evacuate, though high winds in the area have closed stages at the venue.

Another fire burned more than a dozen acres near Airway Heights on Sunday afternoon, sending plumes of smoke visible from Spokane.
