Prep roundup: Shadle Park ousted from District 3A playoffs by Southridge, 44-20
Carson Doyle hooked up with Vinny Epefanio for three touchdown passes, but they all came in the second half and when Shadle Park was already trailing 31-0.
The Highlanders eventually fell to Southridge 44-20 at Lampson Stadium in Kennewick in a District 3A playoff game.
Doyle went 19 of 31 for 241 yards and Epefanio ended with six catches for 135 yards.
Shadle Park finished the season at 5-5.
Zayid Al-Ghani rushed for 156 yards with two touchdowns to pace Southridge. Mason Martin threw three touchdown passes and Brycen Kelly returned an interception 23 yards for a score.
Southridge faces No. 1 seed Juanita on Saturday.
Epefanio’s 38-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter trimmed Shadle Park’s deficit to 31-20 with 7:56 to go, but Martin found Gavin Willingham on an 11-yard touchdown pass and Al-Ghani busted a 39-yard scoring run to provide the final margin.
Girls soccer
4A Regional: Zoe Boleneus made seven saves and Gonzaga Prep blanked Central Valley 3-0 in a loser-out match in the 4A Regionals at Spokane Falls CC.
The Bullpups got a first-half goal from Corynn Vigil, while Angel Denke and Trudi Timperman added insurance goals after intermission.
G-Prep will face Mead on Thursday in the loser’s bracket final. The winner there will play on Saturday against the loser of Thursday’s Chiawana/Hanford match for the second 4A regional berth to the state tournament.
Mead picked up three second-half goals and eliminated Richland 3-0 in a loser-out match at Joe Albi Stadium.
Bailey Thompson, Cheris Brown and Olivia Sloan all scored for the Panthers in a three-minute span at the start of the second half.
3A Bi-District: Hallie Vervair had a goal and an assist to help Mt. Spokane top North Central 4-0 in a loser-out match at Joe Albi Stadium.
Mt. Spokane will face Kamiakan on Thursday for the second berth to the District crossovers, which begin on Saturday. Southridge won the regional title with a 3-0 win over Kamiakin.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 38th minute on Alli Gockley’s penalty kick goal. Mt. Spokane poured in on in the second half. Vervair scored in the 60th minute, Amber Hickman registered an unassisted goal in the 70th minute and Khloe Hammond added another late.
District 7 2B/1B: Lydia Bergquist had three goals and an assist and host St. George’s defeated Kettle Falls 13-0 in the first round of the District 7 2B girls soccer tournament on Tuesday.
For St. George’s, Abby Jones and Cate Caporicci had two goals and an assist apiece while Cambie Rickard and Alison Day both scored twice. Kaitlyn Vera and Grace Harrill had a goal and an assist apiece while Maddy Christiansen chipped in with three assists.
The top-seeded Dragons, undefeated in league play this season, will host Northwest Christian on Friday at 3 p.m. for the district championship and the lone berth to the state tournament round of eight.
NWC beat host Davenport in a shootout, 3-1, after scoreless draw in regulation and overtime.
Volleyball District 7 2B
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 3, Springdale 0: Tessa Jantz had 14 kills, Lacey Miller added 26 assists and Lind-Ritzville/Sprague defeated Springdale in three sets, 25-15, 25-21, 25-13 in Davenport.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague will play the loser of Colfax/Northwest Christian at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. George’s.
In their earlier match, LRS eliminated Kettle Falls 25-11, 25-10, 25-17, while Springdale dropped Reardan.
Davenport 3, St. George’s 0: Sydney Zeiler had eight service aces to lead Davenport over St. George’s 25-15, 25-11, 25-13 in a loser-out match in Reardan.
Nicole Coppersmith and Ivy Halverson added eight kills apiece for the Gorillas.
Davenport advances to play on Saturday at 11 a.m. against the Wilbur/Creston-Liberty loser at St. George’s.
In the day’s earlier matches, Grace Lilje had 13 assists, Emma Johnson added 10 digs and Davenport eliminated Asotin 25-8, 25-8, 25-22, while St. George’s eliminated Tekoa-Rosalia.
