Connor Manning threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third as Georgia State beat Georgia Southern, 30-24 on Saturday in Atlanta.

It was only the third meeting all-time in the Sun Belt Conference rivalry. Georgia State began playing football in 2010. The win snaps a three-game losing streak by Georgia State and comes a week after coach Trent Miles was fired and replaced by quarterbacks/receivers coach Tim Lappano (Gonzaga Prep/Idaho).

The loss is the sixth in the last seven games for Georgia Southern.

Glenn Smith ran 29 yards for a touchdown, Manning ran in from a yard out two minutes later, then fired 28 yards to Robert Davis to give Georgia State a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. The Eagles battled back to trail 20-17 at halftime.

Manning answered with 15-yard strike to Smith and Brandon Wright tacked on a 27-yard field goal to put the game out of reach.

Georgia 35, Louisiana-Lafayette 21: Isaiah McKenzie scored on big plays the first two times he touched the ball, including a punt return that set a school record, and the Bulldogs defeated the Ragin’ Cajuns in Athens, Georgia.

McKenzie scored on a 55-yard run on Georgia’s first play and added another touchdown on an 82-yard punt return midway through the first quarter. McKenzie, a junior, set school records with his fifth career punt return for a touchdown and his sixth kick return score overall.

Nick Chubb ran for 108 yards and a touchdown and caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Eason in the fourth quarter.

Louisiana-Lafayette was hurt by four turnovers. After having no more than two interceptions in his first nine games, quarterback Anthony Jennings threw three interceptions, all in the first half.

Appalachian State 42, Louisiana-Monroe 17: Marcus Cox rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns to become Appalachian State’s all-time leading rusher and lead the Mountaineers over the Warhawks in Boone, North Carolina.

Cox has amassed 4,820 rushing yards in his career, surpassing Kevin Richardson’s 4,804 yards (2004-08).

Jalin Moore also had a good night, rushing for 135 yards on 13 carries as Appalachian State had 637 total yards.

New Mexico State 50, Texas State 10: Tyler Rogers accounted for five touchdowns and Larry Rose III ran for 123 yards as the Aggies defeated the Bobcats in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

South Alabama 31, Presbyterian 7: Xavier Johnson had 116 yards rushing, including a 70-yard TD run to open the scoring, and the Jaguars defeated the Blue Hose at Mobile, Alabama.
