Forest Service names street after officer killed by grizzly

KALISPELL, Mont. – A U.S. Forest Service road has been renamed in honor of an officer who was killed by a grizzly bear near Glacier National Park.

The Flathead Beacon reported a road leading to the Hungry Horse Ranger Station has been named Brad Treat Memorial Street to recognize the 38-year-old Forest Service law enforcement officer who was attacked while riding his mountain bike in June.

Treat was riding along a trail with limited sight distances, leaving little time to react.

District Ranger Rob Davies says the simplicity of the new street signs reflect Treat’s simple nature. They are located in the heart of the Hungry Horse Ranger District, where Treat worked for 15 years.
