Area roundup: Sasquatch rally from 2 sets down to beat Blue Mountain

Jessica Schmautz totaled 11 kills and nine digs and Santana Jose added 10 kills and four blocks to guide the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (20-9, 8-2) to a come-from-behind 23-25, 14-25, 25-12, 25-23, 16-14 victory over the visiting Blue Mountain Timberwolves (16-14, 5-4) in Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action on Wednesday.

Kendall Collins and Leilani Moody each had 19 assists for the Sasquatch.

Kennadie Clute, an NAIA All-American, totaled 27 kills while hitting .449, 22 digs, four blocks and two service aces to help the Lewis-Clark State Warriors (7-10) end a six-match skid with a 16-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 17-15 nonconference win over the host Whitworth Pirates (13-5).

Emiko Kahler totaled 17 kills and 17 digs for the Whits. Cassancra Mendoza added 15 kills, while Taylor Wicht had a match-high 26 digs.

Halle Hess and Brooke Bell combined for 21 kills and Brittany Gay handed off 31 assists to propel the North Idaho Cardinals (13-12, 8-2) to a 25-14, 25-14, 26-24 sweep over the Columbia Basin Hawks (15-19, 5-5) in NWAC play in Pasco.

Jocelyn Cook-Cox scored 8 minutes into the match and Monique Queen added a goal and an assist in the second half to guide the visiting North Idaho Cardinals (10-1-1, 8-0-1) to a 3-0 victory over the Walla Walla Warriors (10-3-2, 6-2-1) in NWAC women’s play.

McQueen assisted on Sadie Schmeling’s goal in the 80th minute and found the net – with an assist from Meg Lowery – in the 86th minute.

Jenna Sullens had a hat trick by halftime and added a fourth goal in the second half to spark the CC Spokane women (12-0-4, 8-0-1) to a 6-0 win over the visiting Yakima Valley Yaks (4-7-1, 3-6) in NWAC women’s action.

Anisha Nicholson scored in the 7th minute, 60 seconds after Sullens’ first goal, for the Sasquatch. Erica Simpson capped the scoring for CC Spokane in the 69th minute.

Jonathan Cortez scored twice in the first 33 minutes and notched a hat trick with a goal at the 65-minute mark to propel the CC Spokane Sasquatch men (8-3-3, 8-1-1) to a 5-2 win over the Treasure Valley Chukars (3-9-2, 2-7-1) in NWAC action in Ontario, Oregon.

Eric Sanchez-Flores and Chase Reidt also found the net for the Sasquatch, who jumped out to a 4-0 lead and breezed.

Muganza Katanga and Jose Perez scored 5 minutes apart in the first half and keeper Garrett Boyce made them stand up as the visiting North Idaho Cardinals men (4-7-3, 4-5-1) held on for a 2-1 NWAC win over the Walla Walla Warriors (8-3-3, 5-3-2).

Gabe Nazemi and Justin Kofmehl each had a goal and an assist and the Coeur d’Alene Vikings outlasted the host Lake City Timberwolves in a 5A Region 1 winner-to-state match.

LC drops into a play-in match on Saturday at McCall against the District III fifth-place team for a state berth.

The Sandpoint Bulldogs scored three goals in the second half to double up the host Moscow Bears in a 4A Region I winner-to-state, loser-out match.
