Whitworth wins volleyball tournament in Santa Cruz

Whitworth picked up two more wins on Sunday and won the five-team UC Santa Cruz Slugfest volleyball tournament on Sunday in Santa Cruz, California, with a 3-1 record.
The Pirates swept Mills College 25-7, 25-6, 25-10, setting a school record with a team hitting percentage of .647 with Lauren Budde setting a program record by converting all 11 of her attacks into kills for 1.000 percentage.
Whitworth then beat Whitman 27-25, 18-25, 27-25, 25-20. Brenna Bruil led the Pirates with 18 kills.
Cassandra Mendoza had 25 kills over the two matches for Whitworth.
Pirates Cassandra Mendoza and Erin White were first-team all-tournament selections with Bruil and Taylor Wicht on the second team.
