Peninsula denies Sasquatch
Peninsula picked up a couple of late-game goals on Monday to thwart the Community Colleges of Spokane men’s and women’s soccer teams on their home turf at Fort Wright.
The CCS and Peninsula men were all even when the Sasquatch gave up an own goal in the 74th minute that provided the Pirates with a 2-1 victory. Johanthan Cortez had scored for CCS in the 41st minute only to see Peninsula’s Joey Hollimon score seven minutes later.
Anisha Nicholson, at 32 minutes, and Maddy Boyd, a minute into the second half, had given the CCS women a 2-1 lead, but Peninsula managed a 2-2 draw when Hoku Afong scored in the 88th minute.
Zag honored: Colton Cavey, a junior midfielder at Gonzaga who had two goals and an assist in two wins last week, was named the West Coast Conference men’s soccer Player of the Week. His goal against No. 16 Seattle produced a 3-2 victory for the Bulldogs.
