Coeur d’Alene City Council approves Blackwell Island annexation

The Coeur d’Alene City Council approved the annexation of the southern part of Blackwell Island Tuesday evening.

Council members approved the request from businessman Duane Hagadone on a 5-1 vote, with Dan Gookin casting the dissenting vote.

Hagadone Corp. owns 24 acres on the island and adjacent submerged lands. Two Hagadone businesses - the Marina Yacht Club LLC and Cedars Floating Restaurant - operate on the property.

The annexation will allow the two businesses to hook up to city water and sewer, Hagadone consultant John Barlow said. Other parts of the island are already within city limits.
