Outlook: The Central Valley girls are expected to continue to be the class of the league. The Bears are seeking their sixth straight league championship. “A lot of talent on paper but a lot goes into being good at the end of May,” CV girls coach Geoff Arte said. “We should be a tough team in dual meets and big invites. We are starting to be build for both types of meets, which should make for an exciting year all the way through the state meet.” CV took fourth at state last year, a point out of third. LC is the team with the best chance to push CV. “CV is still the team to beat,” LC coach Dan Hilsenberger said. “Great girls, great coaches, great program.” … Traditional power Mead, Mt. Spokane, Ferris and Central Valley boys are expected to have a tug-of-war to decide the league title. Mt. Spokane returns the most state experience. Each of the four challengers have their specific strengths. … The GSL squeezed its dual season from five weeks to four and decided to start the week after spring break instead of the week before. In the first duals April 13, Ferris boys visit Mead in what should be an interesting opener. … The 4A teams will travel to Richland for a second straight year for the regional meet against Mid-Columbia Conference teams. … The 3A GSL and MCC teams will meet in a subregional at Spokane Falls Community College and send qualifiers on to a regional against Seattle-area teams.
