Patsy Cline musical, ‘Secret Garden’ coming to Spokane Valley Summer Theatre

Feb. 6, 2017 Updated Fri., Feb. 10, 2017 at 4:02 p.m.

Spokane Valley Summer Theatre will return in 2017 with two main stage shows, a benefit concert and a three musicals produced through its conservatory program.

Kicking off the season will be “Always, Patsy Cline,” written by Ted Swindley. This jukebox musical – a theatrical cousin to last season’s opening show, “Buddy” – is based on Cline’s real-life friendship with a Houston housewife, set to Cline’s most iconic tunes, including “Crazy,” “Walkin’ After Midnight” and “Sweet Dreams.” The show will run June 23-July 9.

“The Secret Garden,” the Tony-winning Broadway adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s 1911 novel, will run July 21-Aug. 6.

The SVST Broadway in Concert benefit show will be on Aug. 2; proceeds will support the David Malinak scholarship fund, in honor of the former student and actor at Central Valley High School and Spokane Civic Theatre.

The conservatory students – those entering grades 2-6 – will have the opportunity to work on “The Wizard of Oz,” “The Adventures of Harry Potter and Friends,” and “James and the Giant Peach.”

Shows will be presented at Central Valley Performing Arts Center, 821 S. Sullivan Road, Spokane Valley. The company was created last year by Yvonne A.K. Johnson, former artistic director at Spokane Civic Theatre.

Season tickets are on sale beginning Monday through www.svsummertheatre.com.
