Whitworth splits softball doubleheader in California

LA VERNE, Calif. – Madi Perez pitched a two-hit, five-inning, complete-game shutout in a 2-0 Whitworth victory over Chapman before the Pirates dropped the seven-inning, second game to the Panthers 10-3.

Perez (6-0) struck out four and walked one with Allie Rude, Michelle Silva and Myranda Ramirez driving in two runs each for the Pirates (9-3).

In the second game, Chapman (2-2) broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning and finished with 14 hits against four Whitworth pitchers. Tessa Matthews had a two-run triple for Whitworth.

The games were played in La Verne after recent rains made Chapman’s field in Orange, California, unplayable.
