Coeur d’Alene handles Lake City to start league play
Sam Matheson scored 23 points and Coeur d’Alene marched past visiting Lake City 64-51 to begin 5A Inland Empire League boys basketball play on Tuesday.
Down five points at the end of the first quarter, the Vikings (4-4) rattled off a 20-9 run in the second and cruised from there.
Joey Naccarato had 14 points and five rebounds and Colson Yankoff finished with 12 points and six rebounds for the Vikings.
Kenny Louie-McGee scored 18 points to lead the Timberwolves (7-2).
Great Northern League
Pullman 59, Cheney 53: Jared Anderson and Jacob Wells scored 20 points each and Anderson added 17 rebounds as the host Greyhounds (9-2, 2-1) edged the Blackhawks (6-4, 0-3).
Jaylen Worthem scored 24 points and grabbed nine boards for the Blackhawks.
Clarkston 67, West Valley 50: Jett Sobotta scored 22 points to lead the Bantams (8-2, 4-0) over the visiting Eagles (6-4, 2-1).
The Bantams, after being tied at 16 after the fourth quarter, strung together a 42-22 run throughout the second and third quarters.
Colin Sather and Bryan Anders scored 11 points apiece to lead the Eagles.
Northeast A
Medical Lake 56, Newport 41: Nizhole Sherman scored 22 points, Trenten Garza chipped in 17 and the Cardinals (8-1, 4-0) defeated the visiting Grizzlies (5-5, 2-2).
Danny Bradbury scored 11 points and Robby Owen added 10 for the Grizzlies.
Lakeside 66, Colville 37: Three players scored in double figures, led by Tristan Cox’s 13 points, to lead the Eagles (5-5, 3-1) past the visiting Indians (3-7, 1-3) at Nine Mile Falls.
Freeman 69, Riverside 33: Michael Coumont scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Scotties (9-1, 4-0) over the host Rams (2-8, 0-4).
Freeman jumped out to a 23-10 first-quarter lead and cruised to remain undefeated in league play.
Kory Cross poured in 20 points to lead Riverside.
Deer Park 50, Chewelah 43: The Stags (4-6, 2-2) outscored the Cougars (3-5, 0-4) 19-9 in the fourth quarter in winning on the road.
DP’s Austin Wisinger scored 12 points. Gavin Parrott scored 20 for Chewelah.
Northeast 2B
Liberty 80, St. George’s 72: Chase Burnham scored 28 points and grabbed 10 boards and the visiting Lancers (6-4, 4-2) edged the Dragons (5-5, 4-2).
Erik Farias scored 23 points to lead St. George’s.
Reardan 74, Columbia 45: Freshman Tyler Sprecher poured in 31 points in the Indians’ (2-6, 1-4) win over the visiting Lions (2-6, 2-3).
Reardan’s Zach Perleberg added eight points and 10 assists. Riley McLain had 18 points and Corbin Nelson chipped in 14 for Columbia.
Northeast 1B North
Selkirk 67, Northport 29: Jacob Couch scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the host Rangers (8-1, 5-0) past the Mustangs (4-6, 2-4) in Ione. Kade Middleworth led Northport with 10 points.
Southeast 1B
Pomeroy 57, St. John-Endicott 38: Hogan Heytvelt scored 13 points and Oscar Morfin chipped in 12 to lead the Pirates (6-1, 4-0) past the visiting Eagles (2-6, 1-4).
Cooper Lumberg led St. John-Endicott with 16 points.
Nonleague
Lewiston 70, Lakeland 34: Trystan Bradley scored 19 points and the visiting Bengals (3-2) beat the Hawks (3-9). Dylan Vahey scored 21 points for Lakeland.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 70, Davenport 59: Mac Isaak scored 23 points and Payton Nielsen had 20 rebounds to lead the Warriors (7-2) past the visiting Gorillas (3-5). Jaden Flett had 26 points to lead Davenport.
Colton 73, Grangeville 50: Grant Kinzer finished with 18 points to lead the Wildcats (3-4) in a throttling of the visiting Bulldogs.
Five Colton players finished with double-digit points.
Oakesdale 63, Valley Christian 20: The Nighthaks (4-5) forced 32 turnovers to smother the Panthers (0-10) and put together a convincing victory.
