Yakima Training Center fire 40 percent contained
YAKIMA, Wash. – A 23,500 acre fire at the Army’s Yakima Training Center is now 40 percent contained as firefighters enter their fourth day fighting the blaze.
Today, firefighters will work to contain the fire toward the south and west in addition to maintaining and strengthening control lines and mopping up hot spots, according to the incident command center.
A bulldozer line has been established along portions of the north, west, south and southwest areas of the fire. The Columbia River contains it on the east.
More than 300 people representing state, local, federal, tribal and private agencies are helping put out the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
