Man with manslaughter conviction arrested for robbery, kidnapping

Three people are facing robbery and kidnapping charges after allegedly robbing a man at knife point and forcing him to take off his clothes. One of the suspects was previously sentenced to eight years in prison for manslaughter.

The victim told police that his former girlfriend, 26-year-old Brianna P. Arena arranged a meeting with him Tuesday because she said she had found his stolen car, according to court documents. He got into her vehicle, which had two other people inside, and Arena took off in an effort to lose the victim’s friend, who was following in another car.

The victim said his cell phone and other valuables were stolen after 27-year-old Michael L. Summa held a knife to his throat, court documents state. He was then forced to strip down to his underwear before being let out of the car near Sprague Avenue and Sherman Street.

Police stopped Arena’s car near Sprague Avenue and Division Street for reckless driving after an officer spotted the car running a stop sign. The victim’s property was reportedly clearly visible inside the car. Arena, Summa and 24-year-old Watasha L. Hayes were arrested. Both Summa and Hayes face additional charges for drug possession.

Summa was convicted of stabbing 22-year-old Shannon Cochran to death in 2009. In September Summa was found face-down in the front yard of 2107 W. Sharp Ave. with two gunshot wounds. He was in jail on a vehicle theft charge in December when corrections officials reported finding six marijuana joints under his mattress in his cell.
