Mariners Pregame: Christian Bergman come on down, lineups and starter matchup

The Seattle Mariners (17-18) play the second of a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays (14-21) on Friday at 4:07 p.m. at Rogers Centre.

The M’s lost to the Jays 7-2 on Thursday, but have won four of five games and six of their last eight. After opening the season 1-6, the M’s have won 16 of 28 and are 15-10 (.600, 97-win pace) in the last 25 games.

Christian Bergman will become the eighth different pitcher to make at least one start for the Mariners this season. Seattle will become the eighth team in the Major Leagues to employ at least eight different starters this season.

The Mariners are the only team in the Majors with five players batting above .300 (min. 60 PA).

This Day in Mariners History

In 2011, Jason Vargas tossed nine shutout innings, but the Mariners lost 2-1 at Baltimore in 12 innings. Vargas became the fourth pitcher in club history to record a no-decision while throwing at least nine shutout innings.
