SFCC to mark 50th anniversary with lawn games, food trucks, a drive-in movie
Spokane Falls Community College will celebrate its 50th anniversary with lawn games, food trucks and other activities during a public event Friday afternoon.
The celebration will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Free activities will include planetarium shows, sidewalk chalk drawing, visits with college mascot Skitch the Sasquatch, campus tours, art displays and various demonstrations, including 3-D printing in the library.
Food will be available for purchase from local food trucks, and at dusk the student government will host a drive-in screening of the film “Wonder Woman” in the P9 parking lot.
A news release said outdoor activities would be moved inside the student union building in the event of inclement weather. Friday’s celebration is the first of several anniversary events scheduled throughout the school year.
The college, at 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive, was founded in 1967 as part of Spokane Community College. College trustees voted to separate the schools in 1970. They now operate jointly as the Community Colleges of Spokane.
