Area roundup: Lajos on target but WSU swept by No. 19 USC in volleyball
Ella Lajos had 10 kills on .500 hitting but Washington State hit just .163 overall and was swept 25-23, 25-16, 25-13 by No. 19 USC (16-7, 8-4) on Sunday in Pullman.
Ashley Brown had 14 assists and Penny Tusa 10 while those two plus Aleix Dirige had seven digs apiece for the Cougars (14-10, 3-9 Pac-12).
UCLA 3, Washington 0: Carly DeHoog had 10 kills on .526 hitting but the No. 14 Huskies (18-5, 8-4 Pac-12) fell 25-21, 25-16, 25-23 to the No. 13 Bruins (13-8, 6-6) in Seattle.

Pacific Lutheran 2, Whitworth 0: The Lutes (15-3, 12-2) scored two first-half goals in beating the Pirates (11-6-1, 10-3-1) in a Northwest Conference showdown in Parkland, Washington. PLU can now win the conference championship with victories in its final two regular-season matches. Whitworth fell to third place.
Arizona 1, Washington State 0: Gabi Stoian scored in the seventh minute and the Wildcats (9-4-4, 6-2-3 Pac-12) blanked the Cougars (9-7-2, 4-6-0) in Tucson, Arizona.
Arizona State 1, Washington 0: Christina Edwards scored in the 73rd minute to lead the Sun Devils (5-10-3, 2-6-2 Pac-12) over the Huskies (9-8-2, 2-6-2) in Tempe, Arizona.
Men’s soccer
Whitworth 2, Pacific 1: Jonah Snyder scored in the 78th minute and Daniel Alvarez in the 88th to rally the Pirates (10-7-1, 8-4-1 Northwest) from a one-goal deficit and to the victory over the Boxers (8-8-1, 5-7-1) in Forest Grove, Washington. The Pirates had 12 shots on goal.
Gonzaga 0, Santa Clara 0: The host Bulldogs (6-7-2, 0-4-1 West Coast) played the Broncos (2-12-1, 2-2-1) to a scoreless draw in Spokane. Ben Willis made fives saves for Gonzaga.
Washington 1, UCLA 0: Jaret Townsend recorded his first career goal and the No. 23 Huskies (12-5-1, 5-3-1 Pac-12) made it hold up with a victory over the Bruins in Los Angeles. The victory gives UW the edge for second place over the Bruins (7-7-1) 4-3-0).
