Weekend weather: Dramatic shift for outdoor plans

From staff reports

Brilliant sunny skies and above-average temperatures on Thursday and Friday will give way to clouds, showers and more seasonal temperatures for the weekend across the region.

Skies will be clear and sunny with high temperatures in the upper 70s for both Thursday and Friday in Spokane and North Idaho, with a light northeast breeze on Thursday.

Lows in Spokane on both days should settle right around 50 degrees, with the mercury dipping into the mid-to-upper 40s for North Idaho.

A shift in the breeze to a southwestern flair midday on Friday is a precursor to a front moving though the area which will carry clouds and showers Friday night into the weekend.

Friday night has the best chance of getting wet, with a 70 percent chance of showers in Spokane and near 100 percent chance in Coeur d’Alene.

Saturday and Sunday the chance of showers drops to around 30 percent in Spokane with temperatures a much more seasonal low-to-mid 60s and lows in the mid-to-low 40s. For North Idaho, high will be in the low 50s with lows in the low 40s in surrounding areas with 40 percent chance of showers.

The historic average high temps in Spokane for the last week of September is 68 and average low is 42.
