Three Things to Know About the 2018 Sentinel Spartans

Shaun Rainey SWX
The Sentinel football program is coming off a great 2017 season in which they made it to the state semifinals for the first time since 1990. This year the Spartans are hoping for an even deeper postseason push. Here are three things to know about this year’s team. Number 1 - They have some dudes at the play making positions that will be fun to watch. “For us would be our skill positions. We bring back Quarterback, Running Back, Jack Colyer and the secondary Blaze Meriweather Beau King. It could go on and on so we feel good about our skill positions,” said Sentinel Head Coach Dane Oliver. “We have great skill guys, quarterback, running back, receivers and then the defensive side a good secondary and d-line,” said Senior WR Jack Colyer. Number 2 - Running back and defensive back Elias DeWaters is one of the best football players in the state. “He brings athleticism and the thing about Elias is he practices hard and he is playing more defense this year so hopefully he can make plays on that side of the ball,” said Oliver. Number three - Their experience making it to the state semifinal game last year will hopefully pay dividends in 2018. “I think the semifinal finish is motivation to see where we can finish this year our goal is to make it to the state championship and that carries over from last year,” said Senior Defensive End Brock Field. “Tradition doesn’t graduate so we are trying to build tradition we got our first playoff win in a long time so we have to take that experience and learn from it,’ said Oliver.
