Girls basketball: Melody Kempton becomes Post Falls’ girls career scoring leader in win

Melody Kempton scored 30 points and Post Falls (19-2, 6-0), ranked No. 2 in Class 5A in Idaho, beat visiting Coeur d’Alene (6-14, 0-6) 54-16 in an Inland Empire League showdown on Thursday.

Kempton, who is committed to Gonzaga for next season, became Post Falls’ girls all-time leading scorer with 1,405 career points, eclipsing the previous record of 1,377 held by Katlyn Loper, who went on to play at Oregon.

Moscow 60, Lakeland 34: Hannah Broyles scored 15 points and the Bears (6-8, 2-1 IEL) beat the Hawks (4-13, 0-3). Katie Ryan led Lakeland with seven points.

Timberlake 66, Genesis Prep 36: Kaylee Jezek scored 14 points and the Tigers (15-3) beat the Panthers (9-9). Bella Murekatete led Genesis Prep with 20 points.

Deary 30, Kootenai 22: Bailee Swanson scored 10 points and the Mustangs (12-6) defeated the Warriors (3-9). Kaili Gentry led Kootenai with seven points.

Genesee 54, Lakeside (ID) 39: Anna Druffel scored 14 points and the Bulldogs (14-5) beat the Knights (9-10). Tommia Pakootas led Lakeside with 16 points.
