Schweitzer Ski Patrol controls large avalanche, Thursday

Schweitzer Ski Patrol used explosives to successfully control an in-bounds avalanche in the North Bowl, Thursday.

“HUGE results in North Bowl with explosives this morning- pictures to follow,” according to Schweitzer’s Ski Patrol Facebook. “Everything north of the Great Divide is closed and will be for awhile. We are still performing explosives work and 15’ crowns pushed the ice out of Colburn Lake.”

The slide was powerful enough to down trees, according to the groups Facebook. The snow slid off a crust of ice left by rain from November 29.

Since then terrain in the North bowl has been reopened.
