Boys soccer playoffs: Deiby Hernandez hat trick lifts East Valley over West Valley

East Valley 5, West Valley 1: Deiby Bernardez registered a hat trick and tagged on an assist and the third-seeded Knights (9-7-2) eliminated the visiting fourth-seeded Eagles (4-14-0) in a District 7 2A first-round match.

East Valley advances to face Clarkston in a semifinal on Saturday at noon.

Dmitriy Kozenya added a goal and two assists for East Valley.

Clarkston 2, Cheney 1: Gus Hagestad scored on the fifth kick in a shootout and the second-seeded Bantams (10-3-0) eliminated the visiting fifth-seeded Blackhawks (3-12-0) in a District 7 2A first-round match.

Noah Schorzman scored in the 15th minute to give Cheney a lead it held until well into the second half. Clarkston’s Nate Greer registered the equalizer in the 55th minute and the 1-1 draw held into the shootout.

Lakeside 7, Newport 0: Kasen Hunsaker scored three goals and the top-seeded Eagles (15-1-1) handled the visiting fourth-seeded Grizzlies (7-8-0) and in a District 7 1A semifinal.

Lakeside faces Colville in the tournament title game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Gonzaga Prep. Both teams qualify for state.

Colville 1, Medical Lake 0: Eduardo Zarate scored in overtime to lift the visiting third-seeded Indians (11-6-0) over the second-seeded Cardinals (7-6-0) in a District 7 1A semifinal.

Andrew Sanchez had eight saves for the clean sheet.
