Second lawsuit filed after hepatitis C outbreak at Puyallup hospital

TACOMA – A class-action lawsuit has been filed against a Tacoma-area hospital after it issued a hepatitis C warning for 2,600 emergency room patients last month.

The News Tribune reported attorneys filed the suit Friday, accusing the MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup of breaching its duty of care.

The hospital advised patients to get tested after multiple cases of hepatitis C were discovered.

The lawsuit claims patients endured worry and stress, inconvenience and distraction by being asked to undergo testing.

MultiCare spokeswoman Marce Edwards declined to comment, saying the hospital has not received any lawsuit.

A lawsuit was filed against the hospital last week by a man who claimed he contracted hepatitis C after visiting the emergency room.
