College soccer: Community Colleges of Spokane women pick up road victory
Alli Smeltzer (University High) and Gaby Kennedy (Lewis and Clark) scored first-half goals Wednesday and Community Colleges of Spokane held on for a 2-1 win over host Wenatchee Valley in Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer.
Sabrina Castaneda assisted on Smeltzer’s early goal. Kennedy’s goal, in the 30th minute, gave the Sasquatch (5-2-1, 3-0-0) the lead for good.
Trisha Priest had 21 saves for the Knights (0-4-2, 0-3-0).
Yakima Valley 3, North Idaho 1: Courtney Handlen scored twice to lead the host Yaks (5-0-1, 2-0-1 NWAC) past the Cardinals (2-3-2, 2-1-0).
NIC’s score came on an own goal in the 56th minute.
The Yaks have outscored rivals 24-6.
Men
Wenatchee Valley 2, CC Spokane 0: Johan Espinoza scored a pair of late goals to lift the host Knights (2-2-1, 1-2-0 NWAC) over the Sasquatch (3-4-0, 2-1-0).
The Knights’ Alexis Calderilla had nine saves.
