An osprey perches on a tree near the Little Pend Oreille lakes on Sunday.

Photographer Joanie Christian captured this shot. She said the perch was precarious and the bird of prey struggled at first to find its balance. But once it did, Christian said, it remained on the perch for quite some time. Ospreys, which eat primarily fish, migrate seasonally to avoid iced-over lakes and streams.
