A man was shot with what police are describing as a rubber projectile after a fight broke out at a lower South Hill apartment complex early Tuesday morning.

Police were called the apartment at 1125 W. 11th Ave. at about 7 a.m., where they found the man with minor injuries, said Sgt. Terry Preuninger, Spokane police spokesman. The man was detained by police for an interview.

Preuninger said the man, who reportedly was being uncooperative, was involved in a fight with two other individuals, one of whom shot him with a rubber bullet.

“He says it was definitely a gunshot and it was loud,” Preuninger said. “We have nothing to refute that.”

The two then fled in a white SUV.

Two neighbors interviewed by police said they did not hear any gunshots, however they did hear yelling coming from the parking lot at the back of the building near Jefferson Street.
