Second person dies from injuries related to Aug. 1 collision in Grant County

A 65-year-old man died Monday from injuries sustained 11 days prior during a crash on State Route 24 that left a 15-year-old girl dead at the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Driver Kenneth Crawford and passenger Karen Crawford, 62, of Mesa were travelling westbound near Othello when an eastbound vehicle, driven by Felix Rangel Diaz, 18, of Mattawa, collided with their car head on, WSP spokesman Trooper John Bryant told The Spokesman-Review Aug. 1. The initial invetigation determined Rangel Diaz was attempting to pass two semi-trucks in oncoming traffic on the two-lane highway.

Both Kenneth and Karen Crawford were airlifted to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland and then Harborview Medical Center in Seattle the day of the accident. Kenneth died in the hospital at 12:30 p.m. Monday, according to WSP. Karen was listed in ‘satisfactory’ condition Monday afternoon, according to Harborview Medical Center.

Rangel Diaz was released from Kadlec Regional Medical Center last week, according to the hospital. His passenger, Gisella Morales, 15, died at the scene.
