Spaceman Coffee burglarized, but thief didn’t steal antiques or NASA memorabilia
Owners say Spaceman Coffee in downtown Spokane was broken into early Monday morning.
The shop, that’s full of antique space-themed decor, was broken into at after 3 a.m. Monday morning, owner Kaitlyn Black said.
Black dropped her wife off at the store, located at 228 W. Sprague Ave., to work the opening shift but was quickly called back when it was apparent the shop at been burglarized.
A neighboring business let Black view their security footage, and Black said she was able to see the person exiting the building with the stolen merchandise, but it was still unclear how they entered.
The shop had been secured after closing the night before and with no signs of forced entry.
“It could have been a random mashing of numbers that let them in … we really don’t know,” Black said of the key pad used to lock the front door.
The shop’s cash box, iPad point of sales system and a space heater were stolen, Black said.
The couple took inventory and then checked to make sure none of the other valuables in the shop were damaged or stolen.
“We have a lot of historical artifacts and NASA things in our shop and those things were not taken,” Black said.
Spaceman Coffee was closed Monday but Black hopes to re-open Tuesday, “as long as we can get it put back together today,” Black said Monday.
While Black admits owning a business downtown is “always a new adventure,” she said they had never been burglarized before.
