AA Legion State Tournament Moved to Billings
The American Legion AA State tournament that was scheduled to be played Wednesday in Helena has been moved to Billings.
“The decision by the Lewis and Clark county heath…we submitted a plan that we thought was a good one and they were not in agreement,” Greg Thornquist general manager with Helena American Legion said.
The health department gave the teams no time to counter offer and since the tournament starts on Wednesday, they decided to play in Billings. “We submitted that plan over a week ago and we got word at 4:30 on Friday.”
The Helena American Legion sent a plan earlier in the season and got the go-ahead but then there was some push back later on. There was a stricter plan that they presented that would empty the ballpark in between games for it to be sanitized and that was turned down as well. The health department didn’t want more than 250 people to visit the ballpark all together next week.
Thornquist did have a bigger picture message though, “I’m glad the kids are getting to play ball and go after a state championship.”
