Man charged with first-degree murder after stabbing in Nevada Heights

A man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of first-degree murder after a man was stabbed to death in Nevada Heights.

A distraught woman called 911 around 6 a.m. to report her boyfriend had stabbed her ex-husband multiple times at a home near the 900 block of East Princeton Avenue, according to a Spokane Police Department news release.

The suspect, later identified as Edward A. Martinez, 19, fled, the release said. When officers arrived at the scene, they immediately called medics and secured the crime scene. Responders transported the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At the scene, officers established a large perimeter. A K-9 officer and his dog responded to track Martinez. While tracking the suspect, a resident tipped police off to Martinez’s location, according to the release.

Officers found him near Broad Avenue and Helena Street.

They took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the detective’s office to be interviewed, the release said.

Martinez was booked into the Spokane County Jail for first-degree murder. Police did not identify the victim in the release.
