One dead after Thursday collision with military-style truck

By Rebecca White and Maggie Quinlan The Spokesman-Review

One person died in a crash on Highway 2 Thursday night after a military-style truck struck another vehicle pulling out of a gas station, troopers said.

Ashley L. Hamilton, 40, of Airway Heights, was killed during the crash just before 6 p.m. Thursday night, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.

Hamilton, who was wearing a seatbelt, was leaving Spoko Fuel just west of Airway Heights heading eastbound when a westbound military-style Harsco BMY truck hit her SUV on the driver’s side.

The other driver, 35-year-old Jasper A. Jensen from Spokane, was wearing a seatbelt as well and was not injured in the crash. After the collision, both vehicles ended up in the right lane on Sunset Highway.

Hamilton’s vehicle was totaled and the other driver’s vehicle was not damaged.

According to the news release, the crash was caused by a failure to yield, but the agency didn’t specify anything beyond that.

Drugs or alcohol weren’t a factor in the crash, troopers said.
