Man who died in house fire Monday identified

The man who died in an early morning house fire on Monday near Liberty Park has been identified as Greg Burford, 72.

Burford owned the home at 1903 E. Sixth Ave., according to Spokane County property records.

The fire started at about 3:15 a.m. When Spokane Fire Department crew arrived, they forced entry into the two-story home, where they were met with extreme heat and smoke conditions, the fire department said.

While searching the second story of the home, they found Burford, who was pronounced dead on scene after being removed from the burning building.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner listed both Burford’s cause of death and manner of death as pending.
