Two people extricated from car crash early Wednesday morning

Two people were seriously injured in a car crash early Wednesday morning that resulted in a technical extrication by local fire departments.

At about 1 a.m. first responders were called to a single car crash at the intersection of Freya Street and Springfield Avenue. The car had significant front-end damage after hitting a large guardrail, the Spokane Fire Department said in a statement.

Spokane Fire Department and Spokane Valley Fire Department crews were dispatched to extricate the driver and passenger.

The impact from striking the guardrail had pushed the vehicle’s engine into the passenger compartment, SFD said. The displaced engine and accompanying vehicle body damage made the extrication challenging, fire crews said.

Both the driver and passenger were extricated in about 25 minutes and transported to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
