Goldman Sachs settles for $3.9B

Goldman Sachs said that it had reached an $3.9 billion settlement with Malaysia to resolve criminal charges that the bank was involved in a massive scheme to launder billions from one of the country’s investment funds.

U.S. and Malaysian investigators have said roughly $4.5 billion was misappropriated from 1Malaysia Development Berhad, called 1MDB, a fund intended to fuel economic development projects for Malaysia.

It was instead used to pilfer funds for yachts and expensive homes, and even help finance Jordan Belfort, the “Wolf of Wall Street.”
