A free showing of “Summer of Soul,” a documentary about the Harlem Cultural Festival to celebrate Black history, culture music and fashion, will be shown 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Whistalks Way. Admission is free.  (Disney+)

1 The Root Experience Festival – A three-day festival of multicultural, multigenerational and multidisciplinary expression through electrifying performances, thought-provoking films, captivating visual art and a marketplace of BIPOC vendors/entrepreneurs. 6-10:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, 12:30-8 p.m. Sunday. 2 Novel Day – A day of workshops and panel discussions with lauded novelists from around our region. Writers at any and all stages of their writing careers are welcome to attend. 3 Write Together – Bring a writing project and your favorite writing tools and prepare to hunker down and write. Local novelist and Writing Education Specialist Sharma Shields will write alongside you and provide prompts and advice if needed. 10 a.m. Friday. Indian Trail Library, 4909 W. Barnes Road. 4 Canines and Cocktails – Bring your dog onto the patio and enjoy dinner, drinks and treats for you and your furry friend. 2-7 p.m. Fridays. South Perry Lantern, 1004 S. Perry St. Admission: Free.

5 Mead Bandwagon Annual Craft Fair – A holiday-themed craft fair with 160+ local vendors selling art, home decor, food, jewelry, clothing, and more. All proceeds support Mead High School bands. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Mead High School, 302 W. Hastings Rd. Admission: $2, kids 12 and under get in free.

6 “Summer of Soul” – A free showing of “Summer of Soul,” a documentary about the Harlem Cultural Festival to celebrate Black history, culture, music and fashion. A middle-aged woman starts a firestorm when she holds a contest, based on an ancient Indian ritual, in which men must compete to win her affections. 9 Show and Sale of Handwoven Textiles – Handwoven textiles by four Sandpoint-area weavers Sue Gervais, Vicki Reich, Mary Catherine Role and Kristie Sherrodd Items will include kitchen towels, table runners, dinner napkins, elegant scarves and shawls, small rugs and more. 1-6 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. 10 Flight 509 Arcade Cards for Food Drive – A food drive hosted by Flight 509. Bring in any nonperishable, non-expired food item and get a 30-minute Roger’s Arcade card.
