No traction yet on idea of removing snow tires

I’ve had a number of people ask me if it’s time to take off their snow tires. I tell them this: “I would wait until at least the end of March.” Despite the recent drier and milder-than-normal weather over the past week, it does look like we’re going to see an increase in snowfall along with colder temperatures between now and early March.

Valley City Council assesses road work list

The Spokane Valley City Council took a look at the amended list of proposed road projects for this year’s Transportation Improvement Plan at Tuesday’s meeting. Some projects were removed due to lack of funding and others were added when the city won grants to complete construction, said senior capital projects engineer Steve Worley. There are a few unfinished projects from 2012 on the list, including the swale project on the west end of Sprague Avenue.

Boy hit by car avoids major harm

The number of calls to the Spokane Valley Fire Department dropped the week of Feb. 7-13 after being above normal for several weeks. Firefighters responded to 208 calls, most of them minor. A 4-year-old boy was hit by a car in the 1400 block of North McDonald Road just after noon on Feb. 7. Witnesses told firefighters that the boy darted out in the street before being hit. The driver of the car was cradling the boy in his arms when firefighters arrived, said Bill Clifford, assistant fire marshal.

CV updating social studies classes and books

Central Valley School District is reassessing its high school social studies programs because the last time it adopted new curriculum, the Oval Office was occupied by George W. Bush in his first term. Through March 30 the district is testing new curriculum to replace outdated textbooks for world and U.S. history, civics, psychology and sociology, as well as Advanced Placement European and U.S. history, government and world history.

For theater lovers who want options, Ignite!
