HALL SUBMITS RESIGNATION

(Boise). Idaho State Board of Education President Milford Terrell confirms today that he has been notified from the office of Idaho Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter that Board Member Blake G. Hall of Idaho Falls has resigned his position effective April 3, 2009.

Citing an increased time demand of his private legal practice as well as his many other volunteer activities, Hall offered the following; “I have very much enjoyed serving you, Governor Risch, Governor Kempthorne and the people of the Great State of Idaho as a member of the State Board of Education for almost nine years,” said Hall in his letter. “As you are aware I believe periodic change in leadership is essential for the health of our institutions including the State Board of Education.” Hall continued in his letter, saying, “After almost nine years as a member of the State Board of Education I believe that I have accomplished all that I can on behalf of you and your predecessors.”

Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter offered the following, upon receiving Hall’s resignation; “Blake has dedicated years of service to the people of Idaho on the Board of Education. I join everyone in state government in wishing him the best in all his future endeavors.”

“Blake Hall has always been there for education,” said Board President Milford Terrell. “Whether it was his remarkable leadership during his years as president, or his insight into the many complex issues that come before the board, or his steady hand as a board officer and committee chair, one thing was clear; Blake Hall was ready to ask the tough question, tackle the tough issue and ready to do the work. On behalf of the Board, I thank Blake for all his dedication and countless hours of service.”

The State Board of Education consists of eight non-partisan members, seven of whom are appointed by the Governor. When confirmed by a vote of the full Senate, a board member serves for a term of five years. The eighth member is a voting ex-officio, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, who serves for the length of their elected term (4 years). Board appointments are not statutorily bound by geographic region, meaning board members are appointed to serve and represent the entire state and system.

The Board’s next regularly scheduled meeting is set for April 16-17, 2009 on the campus of the University of Idaho. To learn more about the Idaho State Board of Education, please visit www.boardofed.idaho.gov .
