Otter appoints Nancy Baskin as a 4th District judge

Nancy Baskin, longtime staff attorney for U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge, has been appointed as a 4th District Court judge by Gov. Butch Otter. Baskin will succeed 4th District Judge Timothy Hansen when he retires in February.

“Nancy brings to the state bench a wealth of perspective and experience from her years in federal court. What’s more, she brings a lifetime of familiarity with the community, its challenges and its values,” Otter said in a statement. “I’m confident that her continuing service will be as exemplary as her work for Judge Lodge has been.”

Baskin has clerked for Lodge since 1993 and previously was in private practice with the Boise law firm Givens Pursley LLP. She earned degrees in business and political science at the University of Idaho before working for Boise Cascade for five years, and then returned to the University of Idaho to study law, where she earned her law degree in 1991 and served as managing editor of the Idaho Law Review. She later earned a master’s degree in business administration from Boise State University.

Baskin said in a statement, “I am humbled and grateful for being selected by the fovernor for this judgeship. I am eager to bring my legal and business experience to the state judiciary and to continue my public service to the people of Idaho.”
